The Essentialist Blog - WILL BE BACK!

Living in a world of brands, ads, fancy, New York parties et al is good, but leaving it for a while is even better.

I have always believed that the best know-how one can get is by going places and keeping your eyes open.

The ultimate form of doing it is to quit your job, grab a backpack, pack light, put together a very loose itinerary and just go to the places you have always wanted to see - if you do this, you win my friend. I am doing it. I win.

The Essentialist goes on a small tour of here and there for quite a few months, including Miami, Buenos Aires, Tokyo, Bangkok and many more, to freshen up, to see what's up and what's really hot!

Therefore, the blog will be somewhat suspended, although occasional posts may and will happen (pay close attention to the "places" department).

After I come back, not only will it be fully resumed, but you'll find it bigger, better and smarter.

Until then - thanks for every minute you've spent on this site (I know who you are, Google Analytics works wonders...)

New York City - HOT

New York City.

You've been my home for the last three years.

We've come a long way - I met you eight years ago and one has to admit, it was love from the first sight. I came all this way to live with you, to explore you, to learn you. It was the craziest, busiest time of my life, and I haven't wasted a single minute with you - and you know it.

I learned to love you and hate you.

I love you because I feel safe with you.
Because you inspire me.
Because I miss you.
Because you're not perfect.
Because you change.
I love you because I am never bored with you.
I love you because I am proud of you, and because you accepted me.

I hate you because you're harsh on people, which makes them harsh on one another.
I hate you because you're a transit station - although the best one in the world.
I hate you because for most of us you're a stopover, not a final destination. You know it's true, don't deny it.
I hate you because relationships, friendships, everything here is bound to be temporary. Don't deny it.
I hate you because you demand so much from me that I forget about others.
I hate you because too often you loose yourself in the glitz you're famous for.
I hate you because sometimes you're bringing me down.

I hate you because despite all of the above I already miss you.

And now I am wondering and don't know what to think - will you let me go, or will I have to come back to you...?
